Using Templates

Start with a pre-built template to save time. Browse the gallery, customize with AI, and make any template your own.

Templates are fully functional starting points that let you skip the initial setup and jump straight into customization. Whether you need a landing page, an admin dashboard, or an e-commerce storefront, the template gallery has you covered.

Browsing the Template Gallery

Access the template gallery from the "New App" screen or the dedicated Templates page at skappa.io/app-templates. Templates are organized by category: SaaS, e-commerce, portfolios, dashboards, blogs, and more. Each template card shows a live preview screenshot, a brief description, and the technologies used.

Starting from a Template

Click any template to see a full preview. If it fits your needs, click "Use Template" to create a copy in your workspace. The template is cloned entirely — you own it and can modify every file. It is identical to a project you would build from scratch, just with a head start.

Customizing with AI

Once a template is in your workspace, use the AI chat to customize it. Here are some example prompts:

"Change the color scheme to dark navy and gold."
"Replace the hero section with a video background."
"Add a pricing page with three tiers."
"Remove the blog section and add a FAQ page instead."

You can also edit the code directly in the editor. Templates are not locked or protected — every file is fully editable. Swap out content, add new pages, rearrange layouts, or remove entire sections.

When to Use Templates vs Starting from Scratch

  • Use a template when the structure already exists (landing pages, dashboards, CRUD apps) and you want to move fast.
  • Start from scratch when your idea is highly custom or does not fit any existing template category.

Even when starting from scratch, you can browse templates for inspiration and reference patterns you like in your AI prompts.

Tip: Templates are an excellent way to learn Skappa. Open a template, explore its file structure, and see how the AI organized the components. This gives you a feel for how to structure your own projects.
